NASCAR Chassis Selections - Dover

Not all teams announce their weekly race chassis'. Here is a list of those teams that do reveal the chassis in the teams race preview:

#1- Jamie McMurray - Jamie McMurray will debut the Parade Magazine Chevrolet SS at the FedEx 400 Benefiting Autism Speaks at Dover International Speedway. Parade Magazine is completely re-branding its print and digital assets, which are set to debut June 2 on the magazine and its website.

#2- Brad Keselowski - Primary Chassis: PRS-849. Last Raced - Texas (finished ninth).Backup Chassis: PRS-834. Last Raced: Backup at several races (not raced).

#5- Kasey Kahne - Crew chief Kenny Francis will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-769 for Sunday’s race at Dover. Kahne has raced this car three times this season, notably reaching Victory Lane at Bristol on March 17. During those three starts, he has tallied outside pole positions at Phoenix and Bristol, while starting fourth at Richmond, Va.

#10-Danica Patrick - Chassis No. 10-579 was used by Ryan Newman during the 2010 and 2011 seasons but has since been completely overhauled and transformed into a Gen-6-style Chevrolet SS. This will mark the second race for Chassis 10-579 with Patrick behind the wheel as she used it in March at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway. Patrick started 41st and finished 28th at the .533-mile concrete oval. The GoDaddy team then tested Chassis 579 May 14-15 at Dover.

#14-Tony Stewart - Chassis No. 14-722: This car debuted in June 2012 at Pocono Raceway as Stewart took Chassis No. 14-722 from its 22nd -place starting spot to finish third in the Pocono 400. It returned to Pocono in August for the series’ second visit to the quirky, 2.5-mile triangle where it had a similar outing, as Stewart rallied it from its 28th-place starting spot to finish fifth in the rain-shortened race. While Chassis No. 14-722 didn't race again in 2012, it was tested extensively – in the wind tunnel and on the track. It tested at Nashville Superspeedway Sept. 25-26 and at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City Oct. 17-18. With 2013 Chevrolet SS bodywork covering it, Chassis No. 14-722 returned to racing in March at Bristol Motor Speedway for the Food City 500. After qualifying eighth and practicing well, Stewart declared he had the best car he’d had in years at Bristol. But just nine laps into the 500-lap race around the .533-mile oval, Stewart’s left-rear tire deflated. Stewart spun and impacted the SAFER Barrier on the outside of turn one with the left side of his race car. Stewart was OK, but his racecar was not. After lengthy repairs, Stewart returned to the track and finished 31st. Chassis No. 14-722 was rebuilt and saw track time at Dover during a test May 14-15. It returns to Dover this weekend where it will make its fourth career start and second of 2013.

#16- Greg Biffle - Primary Chassis RK-809 was the car Biffle won with at Texas in the spring of 2012.  Most recently the chassis finished 13th in Darlington. Backup Chassis: RK-822  Last ran Martinsville – finished 9th.

#17- Ricky Stenhouse Jr - Primary Chassis RK-820 is the same chassis that the No.17 team ran at Kansas and led 26 laps. #22- Joey Logano -  Primary Chassis: PRS-842. Last Raced: Bristol (finished 17th). Backup Chassis: PRS-836. Last Raced: Backup at several races (not raced)

Rick Dale of HISTORY’s American Restoration has designed a one-of-a-kind trophy that will be awarded to the winner of the 300-mile race.

As last year’s Honorary Starter for the HISTORY 300, Dale awarded the trophy to the 2012 winner, Brad Keselowski, who mentioned that Dale should have designed the trophy as well. With Charlotte Motor Speedway’s blessing, Dale embraced the challenge and designed 2013’s HISTORY 300 trophy with a reverence for racing and its history.

"If winning isn’t enough motivation, drivers now have even more reason to put on a great show for fans at the HISTORY 300," said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Charlotte Motor Speedway. "The winner gets a unique trophy that not only pays tribute to the history of our great sport, but will also look great in any driver’s trophy case."

A 1940 Ford Coupe steering wheel, representing the beginning of stock car racing, forms the centerpiece of the trophy. Two gas pump nozzles from a 1936 North Carolina highway gas station, notoriously frequented by moonshine runners, provide the frame. A Custer Car drive gear completes the design, symbolizing the first go-kart a child builds when dreaming about becoming a race car driver.

Owner of Rick’s Restorations in Las Vegas, Nev., Dale is an expert when it comes to restoring any classic object to its original state. From a 1960s three-wheeled golf cart to an antique Hershey’s candy dispenser, Dale and his staff painstakingly restore objects from history’s past to precise original detail.

"As a fan of NASCAR and racing, I’m thrilled to put my own ‘American Restoration’ spin on this trophy for the HISTORY 300," said Dale. "I’m honored to be part of this exciting race for the second year in a row."

The car made its third career start in the 2012 season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. There, it rallied to a top-20 finish after starting 35th and dealing with handling issues throughout the 267-lap race. Stewart’s milestone 500th career Sprint Cup start also came at Homestead in Chassis No. 14-735. This weekend’s Coca-Cola 600 will mark the car’s fourth career start and first of 2013.

2014 NASCAR Hall Of Fame Class Announced

Flock, Ingram, Jarrett, Petty and Roberts Comprise List Of New Inductees

NASCAR announced today the inductees who will comprise the 2014 class of the NASCAR Hall of Fame. The five-person group – the fifth in NASCAR Hall of Fame history – consists of Tim Flock, Jack Ingram, Dale Jarrett, Maurice Petty and Fireball Roberts. Next year’s Induction Day is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, broadcast on Fox Sports 1 from Charlotte, N.C.

The 54-member NASCAR Hall of Fame Voting Panel met today in a closed session in Charlotte, N.C., to vote on the induction class of 2014. NASCAR Chairman and CEO Brian France made the announcement this evening in the NASCAR Hall of Fame’s “Great Hall.”

Next year’s class was determined by votes cast by the Voting Panel, which included representatives from NASCAR, the NASCAR Hall of Fame, track owners from major facilities and historic short tracks, media members, manufacturer representatives, retired competitors (drivers, owners, crew chiefs), recognized industry leaders and a nationwide fan vote conducted through NASCAR.com – which counted for the 55th and final vote. The accounting firm of Ernst & Young presided over the tabulation of the votes.

Voting for next year’s class was as follows: Tim Flock (76%), Maurice Petty (67%), Dale Jarrett (56%), Jack Ingram (53%) and Fireball Roberts (51%).

The next top vote getters were Jerry Cook, Joe Weatherly and Wendell Scott.

Results for the NASCAR.com Fan Vote, in alphabetical order, were Richard Childress, Rick Hendrick, Dale Jarrett, Benny Parsons and Fireball Roberts.

The five inductees came from a group of 25 nominees that included:

Red Byron, Richard Childress, Jerry Cook, H. Clay Earles, Tim Flock, Ray Fox, Anne Bledsoe France, Rick Hendrick, Jack Ingram, Bobby Isaac, Dale Jarrett, Fred Lorenzen, Raymond Parks, Benny Parsons, Maurice Petty, Larry Phillips, Les Richter, Fireball Roberts, T. Wayne Robertson, Wendell Scott, Ralph Seagraves, O. Bruton Smith, Curtis Turner, Joe Weatherly and Rex White.

Class of 2014 Inductees:

Tim Flock
A two-time NASCAR premier series champion, Flock was one of the sport’s first dominant drivers. In 187 starts, Flock had 39 victories, a total that still ranks 18th on the all-time wins list. Flock won his first series title in 1952 while driving Ted Chester’s Hudson Hornet, and his second in 1955 driving Carl Kiekhaefer’s Chrysler. He dominated that season, posting 18 wins, 32 top fives and 18 poles in 39 races. Flock’s 18 wins stood as a single-season victory record until Richard Petty surpassed it with 27 wins in 1967.

Jack Ingram
The NASCAR Nationwide Series has had a variety of incarnations through the years but when considered collectively, an argument can be made that Jack Ingram is the series’ all-time greatest driver. Before the formation of the series, Ingram won three consecutive championships, from 1972-74, in its precursor – the Late Model Sportsman Division. When the NASCAR Busch Series was formed, he won the inaugural title in 1982 and again in ’85. In his 10 years of competition in what was called the NASCAR Busch Series, Ingram had 31 wins, a record that stood until Mark Martin broke it in 1997. All but two of Ingram’s 31 wins came on short tracks.

Dale Jarrett
Dale Jarrett personified big-stage performances. A three-time Daytona 500 winner and two-time winner of the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Jarrett excelled under NASCAR’s brightest spotlights. His 32 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series victories – 21st all-time – also include the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Jarrett won the 1999 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series championship, and recorded six additional top-five championship finishes. With father Ned, the Jarretts are only the second father-son combination with NASCAR premier series championships after NASCAR Hall of Famers Lee and Richard Petty. Ned Jarrett was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in May 2011. Ned and Dale Jarrett become the third father-son duo selected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame, following Bill France Sr. and Bill France Jr., and Lee and Richard Petty.

Maurice Petty
The chief engine builder at Petty Enterprises, Maurice Petty becomes the fourth member of the dynasty to be chosen for membership in the NASCAR Hall of Fame – following his older brother Richard, father Lee and his cousin Dale Inman. The man simply called “Chief” supplied the horsepower that propelled Richard Petty to a majority of his record 200 NASCAR victories, plus his seven NASCAR premier series championships and seven Daytona 500 victories. Lee Petty, Buddy Baker, Jim Paschal and Pete Hamilton were also among those who won with his engines. Petty had a brief driving career – 26 premier series races with seven top-five and 16 top-10 finishes between 1960 and 1964 – but was satisfied to work behind the scenes as one of the top engine builders ever seen in the sport.

Fireball Roberts
Glenn Roberts, who got his legendary nickname from his days as a hard-throwing pitcher in high school, is perhaps the greatest driver never to win a NASCAR title. He was arguably stock car racing’s first superstar, an immensely popular prototype for some of today’s competitors who are stars on and off the track. During his career he often came up big in the biggest events, winning the Daytona 500 in 1962 and the Southern 500 in 1958 and ’63. Overall, he won seven races at Daytona International Speedway, starting with the Firecracker 250 in the summer of 1959 – the year the speedway opened.
