NASCAR Chassis Selections - Party in the Pocono's 400

Not all teams announce their weekly race chassis'. Here is a list of those teams that do reveal the chassis in the teams race preview: 

#2- Brad Keselowski - Primary Chassis for Pocono is PRS-856, which is a new chassis. Backup chassis is PRS-847, which was a backup at several races but has not raced.

#5- Kasey Kahne -  Hendrickcars.com returns as a primary partner for Kahne and the No. 5 Chevrolet SS this weekend at Pocono Raceway.  For this weekend at Pocono, crew chief Kenny Francis will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-779, a car Kahne has driven twice before. In March, Kahne led 114 laps in this chassis and finished second at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Most recently, he raced this car at Texas Motor Speedway in April and finished 11th.

#9- Marcos Ambrose - The No. 9 Dewalt Ford team prepared chassis No. 842 for Pocono. The last time the team competed with this chassis was at Darlington Raceway this season.

#10-Danica Patrick - Chassis No. 10-723 was tested in the wind tunnel before seeing its first on-track activity in April at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, where Patrick started 42nd and finished 28th. The car was then tested by Patrick May 7-8 at Nashville Superspeedway and May 29-30 at Pocono Raceway.

#14-Tony Stewart - Chassis No. 14-706: This car debuted in spectacular fashion in March 2012 at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., as Stewart took Chassis No. 14-706 from its ninth place starting spot to lead twice for 42 laps en route to the win in the rain-shortened race. Prior to Fontana, the car spent numerous hours in the wind tunnel. It is a clone to Chassis No. 14-640, which won round three of the 2012 season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Chassis No. 14-706’s second start, in April at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, was a bit quieter than its debut race. It started 23rd and gained 10 spots to finish 13th. Its third start came in the Sprint Cup Series’ longest race, the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. There, Stewart qualified 21st and finished 25th as Chassis No. 14-706 proved to be a handful throughout the 400-lap contest. The car redeemed itself in its fourth start in June 2012 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, where Stewart qualified eighth, led 18 laps and finished second. Chassis No. 14-706 sat idle until returning to Michigan in August 2012 for its fifth career start, but a broken valve spring within the engine relegated it to a 32nd-place finish. With 2013 Chevrolet SS bodywork covering it, Chassis No. 14-706 returned to work April 30-May 1 during a Goodyear tire test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It tested again May 29-30 at Pocono Raceway in preparation for its sixth career start Sunday in the Party in the Poconos 400. 

#16- Greg Biffle - This week's No. 16 3M ford Fusion primary chassis RK-844 last hit the track in Richmond where a broken shock led to a 36th-place finish for Biffle. Backup Chassis: RK-822 Last ran Martinsville – finished 9th.

#17- Ricky Stenhouse Jr -  No. 17 Valvoline Ford Primary Chassis RK-832 is the same chassis that the No.17 team ran at Richmond finishing 16th. The backup Chassis RK-801was a chassis that the No. 99 ran numerous times in 2012.

#22- Joey Logano - Primary Chassis for Pocono is PRS-848 which last raced at Texas and finsihed 5th. Backup chassis is PRS-844, which was a backup at several races but has not raced.

#24- Jeff Gordon - Gordon will race HMS chassis No. 24-785 this week in Pocono.  The car finished 11th at Fontana earlier this year in it's only start.

#27- Paul Menard - This Week's Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet ... Paul Menard will pilot chassis No. 403 at Pocono Raceway. This No. 27 Chevrolet SS was previously run this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway. It was also tested last week at Pocono. The No. 27 Quaker State/Menards Chevrolet SS will sport a different look this weekend carrying a special paint scheme combination of Quaker State green and Menards yellow.

#29- Kevin Harvick - This Week's Rheem Chevrolet SS at Pocono Raceway ... Kevin Harvick will pilot chassis No. 391 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable for the Party in the Poconos 400. The California native last piloted this Chevrolet at Bristol Motor Speedway in March, where he settled for a 14th-place finish. The red Rheem logo will adorn the hood of the No. 29 RCR machine this weekend at Pocono Raceway for their fourth of seven appearances during the 2013 Sprint Cup Series season. 

#31- Jeff Burton - This Weekend's No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet at Pocono Raceway ... Jeff Burton will race chassis No. 416 this weekend at Pocono Raceway. This No. 31 Chevrolet has been utilized three times this season at Auto Club Speedway, Texas Motor Speedway and Darlington Raceway. 

#39- Ryan Newman - Chassis No. 39-733 debuted at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July 2012, when Newman recorded a seventh-place finish. The crew turned the car around in just a couple of days and took it to Pocono Raceway, where it finished sixth. Two weeks later, the chassis was back on track at Michigan International Speedway, where it finished eighth. The chassis earned its first top-five finish at Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. The chassis next raced three weeks later at Dover International Speedway. The chassis made its last start of the 2012 season at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City in October, when Newman was involved in an incident that forced him to retire from the event prematurely. Chassis No. 39-733 was outfitted with a new front clip and a Chevrolet SS body, and saw its first laps of the 2013 season at Kansas in April, where Newman finished 14th. Most recently, Newman raced this Chevrolet SS to a 10th-place finish at Darlington last month. 

#43- Aric Almirola - The No. 43 Smithfield Ford team has prepared chassis No. 837 at Pocono. The team last raced the chassis at Richmond International Raceway, where Almirola finished eighth in this third of four consecutive top-10 finishes earlier this season.

#48- Jimmie Johnson - Johnson will drive chassis No. 728 at Pocono. The car ran at Texas in April and Las Vegas in March, finished 6th both races. The chassis also ran 6 times in 2012, winning at Indianapolis and and Dover in June. Chassis No. 720 once again serves as the backup. No. 720 raced 6 times in 2012, winning the All Star Race and Texas in November.

#55- Mark Martin - Primary Chassis for Pocono is No. 759, the car raced in Darlington and Fontana. 

#88- Dale Earnhardt Jr - This weekend, crew chief Steve Letarte and the No. 88 team will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-798. This is a new chassis that has not been raced.

#99- Carl Edwards - The #99 Cheez-It/Frosted Flakes Ford Fusion team will unload chassis RK – 808 at Pocono Raceway, which last ran at Kansas Speedway in April, finished 17th. Backup Chassis: RK – 826 last ran in Texas

Not all teams announce their weekly race previews'. Here is a list of those teams that do reveal the information in the teams race preview: 

#1- Jamie McMurray -  Making his 20th start at Pocono Raceway this weekend, McMurray has completed 3,664 laps of a possible 3,772 laps at the “Tricky Triangle”, having led 20 laps.  McMurray has earned four top-10s, has an average start of 16.8 and an average finish of 21.4.  McMurray started from the pole at the 2.5-mile tri-oval in 2005 and his best finish was ninth in 2004 and 2008.  McMurray has 14 lead lap finishes in 20 races at Pocono, including eight of the last ten.

#2- Brad Keselowski - Keselowski has 6 starts in the Sprint Cup Series at pocono, earning 1 win, 2 top 5's, 2 top 10's and no DNF's. He has led 27 laps and has an average start of 19.5 and an average finish of 14.5.

#5- Kasey Kahne - In 18 NASCAR Sprint Cup starts at Pocono Raceway, Kahne has recorded one win, four top-five finishes and six top-10s. He has two career pole positions at the track and won from the top spot in June 2008 after leading 69 laps. He has completed 99.2 percent of laps attempted and has led 151 laps at the 2.5-mile track. Most recently at Pocono, Kahne finished second there in August 2012. 

#9- Marcos Ambrose - Ambrose has posted two top-10 and three top-15 finishes in his eight starts at the 2.5-mile track. Ambrose showed speed in both events last season. He qualified ninth and fifth and brought home 13th and 10th-place finishes.

#10-Danica Patrick - The Party in the Poconos 400 at Pocono Raceway will mark Danica Patrick’s 24th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start and her first at Pocono. Patrick has never competed in a race in any series at the 2.5-mile triangle.

#14-Tony Stewart - The Party in the Poconos 400 will mark Stewart’s 514th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start and his 29th Sprint Cup start at Pocono Raceway. Stewart has two poles, two wins, eight top-threes, 11 top-fives, 20 top-10s and has led a total of 156 laps in his 28 career Sprint Cup starts at Pocono. His average start is 12.4, his average finish is 11.3 and he has a lap completion rate of 97.2 percent.

#15- Clint Bowyer -  In 14 races Bowyer owns one top-five (August 2009) and seven top-10s. On average he starts 20th and finishes 15th. 

#16- Greg Biffle - Biffle has 20 Sprint Cup career starts at Pocono. In 2010 he earned his only victory at the “tricky triangle,” while his other stats include two top-five and four top-10 finishes.

#17- Ricky Stenhouse Jr - Stenhouse has two ARCA starts at Pocono Raceway including one win in 2008. Stenhouse will make his first career Sprint Cup start this weekend at Pocono. Stenhouse Jr. is currently 15th in the point standings, 28 points out of 10th.

#18- Kyle Busch - Busch has four top-fives and five top-10s, and has led a total of 63 laps in 16 career points-paying Sprint Cup starts at Pocono. His average Pocono finish is 19.2.

#20- Matt Kenseth - In 26 Sprint Cup Series career starts at Pocono Raceway, Matt Kenseth has an average finish of 14.3, has completed 4,896 of 4,947 (99.0 percent) career laps, and has led for a total of 54 laps (15 of those laps came in 2012 after the track was repaved.)  Kenseth has earned three top-five and 10 top-10 finishes at the 2.5-mile track.

#22- Joey Logano - Logano has  8 starts at Pocono in Sprint Cup. he has scored 2 poles, 1 win, 1 top 5 and 1 top 10 with no DNF's. He got his win in June of 2012. His average start is 13.250 and average finish is 17.375 with 93 laps led.

#24- Jeff Gordon - Gordon, the all-time lap leader here with 965, is the winningest driver at the 2.5-mile track. Along with his record six victories, Gordon has two poles, 18 top-fives and 28 top-10's at "The Tricky Triangle."

#27- Paul Menard - Menard at "The Tricky Triangle" Menard has 12 starts at Pocono Raceway. His best start of second came in 2011 and best finish of ninth came in 2012. The Wisconsin native has completed 2,105 of 2,168 laps attempted (97.1 percent) at the Pennsylvania track.

#29- Kevin Harvick - Harvick has made 24 starts at the 2.5-mile tri-oval dating back to the 2001 season. During that time, the RCR veteran has collected five-top five and eight top-10 finishes. He holds a 19.8 average starting position coupled with a 14.1 average finishing position, has completed 96.1 percent (4,386 of 4,547) of the laps contested and is credited with five laps led.

#31- Jeff Burton - This weekend's 400-mile event marks Burton's 39th start at the 2.5-mile facility and 669th-career Sprint Cup Series race. Burton has garnered seven top-five and 17 top-10 finishes at the track, leading 104 laps.

#39- Ryan Newman - In 22 Sprint Cup starts at Pocono, Newman has one win, seven top-five finishes and 10 top-10's. Additionally, the 35-year-old from South Bend, Ind., has led 163 laps, has an average starting position of 9.8 and an average finish of 12.4 at the 2.5-mile 
triangle.

#42- Juan Pablo Montoya -   In 12 starts at Pocono Raceway, Montoya has completed 2,069 laps out of 2,168 laps possible or 95.4%.  In his last start at the 2.5-mile track, Montoya started on the pole and finished 20th after rain showers moved through the area and shortened the race. He has tallied one top-five, four top-10s and has an average starting and finishing position of 14.3 and 18.7, respectively.

#43- Aric Almirola - Almirola posted a 28th and 18th-place finish in the June and August races respectively last year. Almirola also has one start in the truck series where he started fifth and finished fourth at the track.

#48- Jimmie Johnson -  Two wins (2004 sweep). Two poles (June 2003 and August 2008). Nine top-five finishes (40.9 percent) and 15 top-10s (68.2 percent) in 22 starts. No DNFs (did not finish). Average start of 9.3 and average finish of 9.0.

#55- Mark Martin - In 52 starts at Pocono, Martin owns seven second-place finishes. He has 20 top-five finishes. He’s led 448 laps and won three poles. 

#78- Kurt Busch - Busch’s two wins at Pocono came in the August races in 2005 and 2007. His overall Pocono record includes: 23 starts, two wins, nine top-fives, 12 top-10s, one pole and 449 laps led. His average start is 11.3 and average finish 16.1.

#88- Dale Earnhardt Jr - In 26 Sprint Cup starts at Pocono Raceway, Earnhardt has recorded one pole position, five top-five finishes and nine top-10s. He has completed 96.9 percent of all the laps he's attempted (4,796 laps of 4,947 total). The 38-year-old driver led laps in both Pocono races in 2012 and has led a total of 151 laps at the 2.5-mile track.

#99- Carl Edwards - In 16 starts at the 2.5-mile track, Edwards has two wins, five top-five and eight top-10 finishes. He has an average start of 19.0 and an average finish of 13.2.

Minimum Recommended Inflation:

This is the same combination of left and right side tires that NASCAR Sprint Cup teams ran twice at Pocono last season. These teams also ran this right side tire code (D-4520) twice on Phoenix's recently repaved surface in 2012. For 2013, Pocono is the only track on which these tire codes are scheduled to be run. As on all NASCAR ovals greater than one mile in length, teams are required to run inner liners on all four tire positions at Pocono. Air pressure in those inner liners should be 12-25 psi greater than that of the outer tire.

Toyota Racing Development President Lee White to Retire at End of Season

TRD, USA (Toyota Racing Development) President Lee White today announced that he has elected to retire at the end of the 2013 race season. Due to family health care needs, White will step down from his daily duties and will vacate the position of president and general manager of TRD, effective immediately.

“I have been planning and working toward retirement at the end of this race season in December, “he said. “I have been offered and accepted an opportunity to perform a reduced amount of duties from my home office. This generous arrangement afforded to us by the company will allow me to attend to personal family priorities.”

White has been with TRD for more than 15 years and held responsibility for all TRD activities in North America, including engine development, manufacturing, chassis design and development, team and manufacturer relationships, manufacturer and sanctioning body relations in both CART and the IRL as well as engineering support for Toyota teams participating in National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR), United States Auto Club (USAC), National Hot Rod Association, Grand-Am and Off-Road competition.

Prior to joining Toyota in 1997, White began his career in racing with LeeCo Engineering as an owner, driver and engineer. He served as manager and engineer for Read Racing Engines and later became team manager and engineer for Herman Miller Porsche Racing. He has since held positions as general manager and engineer for Roush Racing, Rocketsports Racing and Newman Haas Racing.

Throughout his career, White has participated in programs totaling approximately 1,000 individual race victories and 250 championships. He is also a private, instrument-rated pilot, aircraft tuner and holder of two U.S. National and World F.I.A. speed records.

“Lee has contributed enormously to Toyota Motorsports in his 15 years with TRD. His leadership has resulted in victories and championships in a broad spectrum of racing series.” said Toyota Group Vice President and General Manager Bill Fay. “He’s had an impressive career and his day-to-day leadership will be missed. We offer Lee and Lynn our support and best wishes.”

White will continue as a Special Advisor to TRD and Toyota Motorsports until his planned retirement at the end of the season. Assignment of his duties will be determined shortly.

· Opened in 1968 as a three-quarter-mile track, Pocono Raceway held the first race on the 2.5-mile track in 1971.
· The first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race was in 1974 – won by Richard Petty, Dodge, 115.593 mph, 08/04/1974.
· The 2.5-mile track was repaved during the fall of 2011.

NASCAR Nationwide Series in Prime Time at Iowa on ESPN
The NASCAR Nationwide Series competes under the lights in prime time at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Ia., on Saturday, June 8, and ESPN will have a live telecast of the 250-lap race. NASCAR Countdown airs at 7:30 p.m. ET with the race’s green flag at 8:15 p.m. All NASCAR programming on ESPN networks is also available on computers, smartphones and tablets through WatchESPN and the WatchESPN app.
