Kansas Driver Previews

Not all teams announce their weekly race previews'. Here is a list of those teams that do reveal the information in the teams race preview: 


#1- Jamie McMurray - McMurray has 10 starts at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway. The driver of the No. 1 Chevrolet has earned two top-10 finishes and has led 26 laps at the track. He has an average starting and finishing position of 19.3 and 20.9, respectively. His best start of fourth came in October 2009, while his best finish of seventh came in October 2004.


#2- Brad Keselowski - After seven points-paying events, Keselowski and the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger team are ranked 15th in the 2012 driver point standings and 16th in the owner point rankings. The team is coming off a 36th-place finish in the Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway last Saturday night. Brad has earned one win, two top fives, two top 10s at Kansas.

#5- Kasey Kahne -  In nine starts at Kansas Speedway, Kasey Kahne has earned two pole positions, one top-five finish and three top-10s. Kahne has qualified in the top eight in six of his nine races there, and he most recently collected a runner-up finish at the 1.5-mile oval in October.


#9- Marcos Ambrose - Marcos Ambrose has made five career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at Kansas. Ambrose enters the weekend in 24th place in the Sprint Cup Series point standings. Ambrose’s best finish (ninth) at the 1.5-mile track came in 2011.


#10- David Reutimann - Reutimann has six career starts at Kansas Speedway. He collected one top-10 finish with an eighth-place run in 2009. He tallied his best start of 13th in the same event. The Zephyrhills, Fla., native made three starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Kansas, where he brought home top-20 finishes in each event. He also made three starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series and finished in the top-15 in each, including a third-place finish in 2005.


#14- Tony Stewart - Stewart has two wins, five top-fives, eight top-10s and has led a total of 152 laps in his 12 career Sprint Cup starts at Kansas. His average start is 16.5, his average finish is 12.2 and he has a lap completion rate of 98.6 percent. 


#15- Clint Bowyer - Bowyer will make his eighth career NSCS start at Kansas Speedway on Sunday. In seven previous starts, he has one top-five and three top-10 finishes. He finished a career-best second in 2007. On average he starts 18th and finishes 12th. Bowyer’s lone win at Kansas came last spring in the Truck Series where he led 124 of 167 laps for Kevin Harvick Inc.


#16- Greg Biffle - Kansas is the track where Biffle holds his best average finish. Biffle has an average starting spot of 15.5 and an average finish of 8.3 at Kansas. In 11 starts Biffle has earned two wins, six top-five and eight top-10 finishes. Biffle is currently leading the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver point standings; 19 points ahead of second.


#17- Matt Kenseth - Kenseth has an average starting position of 13.5 and an average finishing position of 18.0 at Kansas. Kenseth has achieved one pole, three top-five and six top-10 finishes at Kansas in the Cup series. Kenseth has completed 2,938 of 3,152 (93.2 percent) laps at Kansas and led for a total of 236 laps.


#22- A J Allmendinger - Allmendinger will be making his sixth start at Kansas this weekend where he has scored two top 10 finishes. A J is coming off a 15th-place finish at Texas last Saturday night that moved him up to 19th in the current point standings.


#24- Jeff Gordon - Gordon has scored Two wins, eight top fives, nine top 10s, Average finish of 10.3, average Running Position of 8.3, third-best.


#27- Paul Menard - In his six career Sprint Cup Series starts at Kansas, Menard has finished each of his contested races and completed 99.7 percent of his laps (1,546 of 1,550), leading for 11 circuits. He has an 11th-place average starting position and an average finishing position of 20.5. Menard made his best start of second and logged his best finish of eighth in his October 2008 appearance. He holds three top-10 finishes in five NASCAR Nationwide Series starts, claiming the pole position in his first visit to the 1.5-mile oval (October 2004) and made one NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start in July 2003.


#29- Kevin Harvick - Since 2001, Harvick has made 12 Sprint Cup Series starts at the Kansas City, Kan.-based facility and has collected one top-five and five top-10 finishes. He has completed 3,042 laps of the 3,152 run at the intermediate-style track (96.5 percent), with 83 laps led. The 36-year-old driver has an average starting position of 22.2 and an average finishing position of 13.6.


#31- Jeff Burton - Burton sits 16th in the Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings, just 40 points out of the final Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup spot. At Kansas he has score 1 top five and 2 top tens.


#36- Dave Blaney - Blaney will make his 12th start this weekend at Kansas Speedway. He scored his best finish of 10th in his first start at the speedway in 2001, and he wheeled to his best starting spot of 17th in 2006, both while driving for Bill Davis Racing. Last season, the Hartford, Ohio native drove from the 38th starting spot in the fall event to finish in 31st place.


#39- Ryan Newman - Newman’s only win at Kansas Speedway came in 2003. In that race, Newman started 11th and led the final 28 laps of the 267-lap event. · Newman also has two runner-up finishes at the 1.5-mile D-shaped Kansas oval. The runner-up finishes came in 2001 (when Newman was running a partial schedule for Penske Racing) and in 2002 (Newman’s rookie-of-the-year season).


#42- Juan Pablo Montoya - Montoya looks to make his seventh NSCS start at Kansas Speedway this weekend. In his previous six starts, the driver of the No. 42 Chevrolet has accumulated one top-five finish, one top-10 finish and has led 11 laps. He has an average starting position of 20th and an average finishing position of 20.2. Montoya’s best start at the 1.5-mile tri-oval came in June 2011, when he started second. His best finish of fourth came in October 2009. In his NSCS career at Kansas Speedway, Montoya has completed 1,545 of 1,550 laps (99.7%).


#43- Aric Almirola - Aric Almirola will be making his first Sprint Cup start at Kansas Motor Speedway. Almirola has one top-10 finish at the track in the Camping World Truck Series


#48- Jimmie Johnson - Johnson has two wins in 11 starts at Kansas,  three poles at the 1.5-mile track, four top-five (36.4 percent) and nine top-10 finishes (81.8 percent) in 11 starts.


#51- Kurt Busch -  Sunday’s STP 400 mark’s Busch’s 408th career NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start and his 13th Sprint Cup start at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City. Busch has one pole at Kansas, winning the top starting spot at the 1.5-mile track during the June race in 2011. Busch has scored three top-10 finishes and led 239 laps led in 12 career Sprint Cup starts at Kansas. Busch’s average Kansas finish is 17.7.  


#55- Mark Martin - Martin owns a win and five top-10 finishes in 12 starts at Kansas Speedway. He’s led 152 laps, has one pole, Average finish of 13.1, Average Running Position of 12.9, seventh-best.


#88- Dale Earnhardt Jr -  In 12 Cup starts at Kansas, Earnhardt has recorded one pole position, one top five-finish and five top-10s. He has completed 97.6 percent of all the laps he's attempted (3,075 laps of 3,152 total) at the 1.5-mile racetrack. The 37-year-old driver has led a total of 81 laps there.


#99- Carl Edwards - Carl Edwards enters Kansas 11th in the NASCAR Sprint Cup point standings.  In seven starts this season, Edwards has accumulated two top-five and four top-10 finishes. Edwards will make his 10th Cup start at Kansas Speedway this weekend.  In his previous starts, Edwards has four top-five and seven top-10 finishes. His average start is 18.4 and his average finish is 10.7.  His best finish (second) came in 2008.

Kansas Chassis Selections

Not all teams announce their weekly race chassis'. Here is a list of those teams that do reveal the chassis in the teams race preview:
#1- Jamie McMurray - Crew Chief Kevin “Bono” Manion and the No. 1 McDonald’s team will bring Chassis #1208 to Kansas Speedway this weekend. This chassis made its debut this year at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, finishing eighth, McMurray’s first top-10 of the season.


#2- Brad Keselowski - The No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge Charger team will race chassis PRS-822 during Sunday’s STP 400 at Kansas Speedway. This is a new chassis to the No. 2 fleet.


#5- Kasey Kahne - For Sunday’s race at Kansas, crew chief Kenny Francis has selected Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 5-717. This is a new car that has not been tested or raced.


#9- Marcos Ambrose - The No. 9 RPM team has prepared chassis No. 784 for the 267-lap race at Kansas Speedway. This DEWALT Ford Fusion ran at Kansas in last fall’s event.


#10- David Reutimann - CHASSIS NO. 356 – TBR bought Chassis No. 356 in the off-season from Richard Childress Racing. Reutimann drove the chassis at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Auto Club Speedway and Texas Motor Speedway this season. At Vegas, he started in the 31stposition, and a sparking wire in the cockpit relegated the team to a 31st-place finish. At California, he started 18th and finished in the 27th position. He had his best showing in the chassis at Texas Motor Speedway when he drove from the 31st starting spot to finish in 26th place.


#14-Tony Stewart - Chassis No. 14-706: This car debuted in spectacular fashion in March at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., as Stewart took Chassis No. 14-706 from its ninth-place starting spot to lead twice for 42 laps en route to the win in the rain-shortened race. Prior to Fontana, the car spent numerous hours in the wind tunnel. It is a clone to Chassis No. 14-640, which won Round No. 3 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.


#15- Clint Bowyer -  The No. 15 5-hour ENERGY team will race chassis No. 716 at Kansas. Bowyer finished sixth with No. 716 in Las Vegas. Chassis No. 721 will serve as the backup and previously served as backup at Texas, Fontana and Vegas but never raced.


#16- Greg Biffle - Primary: RK-777 Last ran Las Vegas – finished third; Backup: RK-786 Last ran Homestead – finished 35th.


#17- Matt Kenseth - This weekend at Kansas, Kenseth will pilot the No. 17 Ford EcoBoost Fusion. Primary Chassis is RK-741 last ran at Las Vegas. 


#22- A J Allmendinger - Allmendinger, and crew will be racing their new "PRS-823" AAA Dodge Charger this weekend at Kansas. The "PRS-814" is the backup Dodge Charger for the "Double-Deuce" team. It was in the transporter serving as the backup at Las Vegas, Fontana and last weekend at Texas, but has never seen any track time.


#24- Jeff Gordon - Gordon will race HMS chasis #24-718 this weekend at Kansas, it's a brand new chassis.


#27- Paul Menard - Paul Menard will pilot Chassis No. 279 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This No. 27 Chevrolet was last seen on track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March, where Menard earned a seventh-place finish. This chassis was also utilized in 2011 competition at Texas Motor Speedway in November and at Kansas Speedway in October, where the Brickyard 400 winner finished 15th and 12th, respectively.


#29- Kevin Harvick - The No. 29 Rheem team will unload Chassis No. 378 prepared from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This chassis was used during the 2011 season when Kevin Harvick earned a second-place finish at Chicagoland Speedway in September and a sixth-place finish at Kansas Speedway in October.


#31- Jeff Burton - Jeff Burton will race chassis No. 367 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This No. 31 Chevrolet, originally built in 2011, has seen significant track time including visits to Indianapolis Motor Speedway in July 2011 (started-13th, finished-35th), Atlanta Motor Speedway in September 2011 (started-27th, finished-13th) and Kansas Speedway in October 2011 (started-31st, finished-21st). Burton also tallied a top-10 finish at Homestead-Miami Speedway last November, finishing 10th after starting 31st with this car.


#36- Dave Blaney - Blaney will pilot chassis No. 100 this weekend. TBR bought the chassis from Red Bull Racing. Blaney drove the chassis at Bristol Motor Speedway earlier this season.


#39- Ryan Newman - Chassis No. 39-686 will make its fourth start this weekend in the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City. The chassis already has one start to its credit this season, which resulted in Newman’s first top-five finish of 2012 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. After qualifying a disappointing 18th , Newman made a strong drive into the top-10, where he ran for most of the race. He drove from eighth to fourth in the final four laps to earn a fourth-place finish at the 1.5-mile oval in March. Prior to its start at Las Vegas this year, Chassis 39-686 made two starts at intermediate racetracks during the 2011 Chase for the Sprint Cup Championship, which resulted in one top-10 finish. The chassis made its debut in the Bank of America 500 at Charlotte (N.C.) Motor Speedway in October. In that race, Newman started sixth, led six laps and finished a solid 10th. In the second start for the chassis at the AAA Texas 500 at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Newman recovered from a loose wheel and being two laps down to finish a respectable 16th.


#42- Juan Pablo Montoya - Crew Chief Chris Heroy and the No. 42 Target team will bring Chassis #1205 to Kansas Speedway this weekend. This chassis was originally brought to Las Vegas Motor Speedway as the primary car, but after contact with the wall in practice, Montoya was forced to go to a back-up car.


#43- Aric Almirola - The No. 43 STP Ford will be chassis number 752. This is the same chassis the team ran at California earlier this year.


#48- Jimmie Johnson - Chassis No. 720 is a new chassis and serves as the primary for Johnson at Kansas. Chassis No. 669 serves as the backup.

#51- Kurt Busch - Chassis No. 665: This weekend’s STP 400 will be the second race of the 2012 season for this chassis. This is the same car the No. 51 Phoenix Racing team competed with at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in March. The car was rebuilt after being caught up in an accident late in the race at Las Vegas. Busch earned his best starting position of the season with this chassis at Las Vegas, where he started 12th. The car was built in 2011 and was used only once last season – the June race at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, where driver Landon Cassill scored a 12th-place finish after starting 12th.


#55- Mark Martin -  CHASSIS: Primary 720 - finished 18th at Las Vegas in 2012. Backup 708 - has not raced in 2012.


#88- Dale Earnhardt Jr - This weekend at Kansas, crew chief Steve Letarte and the No. 88 crew will unload Hendrick Motorsports Chassis No. 88-716. This is a brand new chassis that has not been raced.


#99- Carl Edwards - The Aflac team will be bringing chassis RK-814 to Kansas Speedway for Carl Edwards. This is a brand new race car.

NASCAR Twitter InAnimate Object Kansas Preview

Hey, @InfieldGrass tell your boys not to mulch you again this week at Kansas. Last week your swirling blades were all over the grilles by lap 14, C'mon, bag it baby, what are You trying to do, keep up with  @DebriInTurn4. Oh wait, Debris was complaining at Texas, said he couldnt stay on track due to all the wind and only got called out twice last week.

@TheMini_Jimmie has apparently asked @DaleJr_Beard for a few clippings to make himself more realistic looking this week at Kansas. Beard declined but mentioned that Dale's gal pal Amy has a new dark hair look and may be able to accommodate with a few locks. Pretty sure Beard was referring to head hair, right Beard?



@TheNascarGarage has recommended all teams turn off all radios and CD players this Saturday at Noon et. At that time the Garages public address system will honor the late Dick Clark by playing the theme from American Bandstand. Garage also recommends white bobby socks and penny loafers for all team members. Dancing is also encouraged during Garages "sock hop". RIP Mr. Clark!

@TheOrangeCone had quite a trip to Kansas, strapped to the top of the same 747 that transported the Space Shuttle to Washington. Upon arriving at the track he was also treated to an authentic Aussie breakfast by Marcos Ambrose, vegemite and Foster's. Hearing the Fosters went down the hole easily, but not "that damn sticky vegemite" as Cone put it. Speaking of sticky, Cone says he's looking forward to the Kansas repave, says new asphalt has a lot of grip, even for the Cone.


@The_BlackFlag asked for a shout out before Kansas. Dude for what, you haven't done anything all year, you cant even keep Reutimann off the track for 3 simple laps. I better see some improvement from you at Kansas, and it better not be against the #88 team or no spray starch for you.


@TheCatchFence is complaining he's "dissatisfied and disappointed" with boring races so far this year. Careful what you wish for Fency, JPM may be all over you,, or worse knock a @NASCARJetDryer in to you at Kansas this week. Sounds like Fency is just jealous of his cousin White House Fence, who got to oversee the Nascar drivers on Tuesday. Dont get your links all in a wad, Catchy!


@TheMiniChad has applied for the job of crew chief at the newly formed alliance between RAB Racing and MWR. Mini will still be with HMS at Kansas since Michael Waltrip told Mini, "We have enough cheaters over here, "ME", did you forget about the additive in the intakes at Daytona a few years ago." 


@TheNASCARHauler Hauler says he's been bored all season. He's getting tired of hauling cars back to the R+D Center every week, but not seeing any drivers. Hauler intends to mandate jock straps laced with BENGAY for all Cup drivers. He's pretty sure that will fire up the drivers and get a few to his unfriendly confines. 


@FlagofCaution is hot after Texas, says teams, Debris and fluid didnt do their jobs to let Yellow fly. Yellow says he will do everything in his polyester power to fly as many as 13 unlucky times just like back in September, 2001 for 70 slow laps. With all those cautions  @keselowski and @In_CarCamera should have a field day with tweet pics, huh!


@NASCAR_EFI will be under a lot of scrutiny at Kansas, mostly because @keselowski has threatened to tweet all pictures of failures under the hood by Effy. Brad is not a fan of Effy and seems to blame him for a bad run last week. Effy says Brad needs to stick to tweeting pics of the White House, then, get in, sit tight and race the EFI'n, car. Wow, is this race in Dodge City cause it'll be a shootout OK!

 @The_GreenFlag also hopes for a bunch of cautions at Kansas. GF says that besides waving to start the race, he intends to wave so many times, the flag man wont have to go to the gym to workout for at least a month. GF says if he doesnt get waved a lot during the race, he intends to meet with all the media type folks and find out why there arent as many cautions this year. Well, just so you know Flag, they've been discussing that all week.

@acheckeredflag says he's just happy to make his 13th appearance at Kansas. Chex says he hopes he doesnt have to share the finish line flag stand with Yellow under caution like back in 2007.  Chex says that was like, "this one time, at flag camp, I",, whoa, never mind Chex!


So, I noticed @48Horseshoe also made a trip to the White House with Double J this week on Tuesday. What, did you all think that bulge in the back of Jimmies pants was an illegal C-pillar. Nope, just old Shoe stuck up Jimmies posterior again. Actually a picture shows that Tony pointed it out to the President and they both got a good laugh.

Press Conference Schedule, Kansas Speedway, April 20-22

NASCAR schedules driver press conferences at every race weekend event. These normally include the Top 12 drivers in championship points in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, along with other drivers of note. The press conferences will last approximately 15 minutes each and may be viewed at NASCAR.com.
